Colossatron: Massive World Threat
Anarchy. The single most fitting word for this game. Brand new and just launching to a world near you today (19th) is Colossatron: Massive World Threat from the crazy guys at Halfbrick. This game is absolutely crazy: crazy idea, crazy game play, crazy fun. And if that doesn’t entice you then I don’t know what will.
Picture the scene, space. An evil creature awaits, ready to crash down on any city it so desires to do one thing. Destroy. Colossatron is that creature and it’s coming, guns blazing and everything. I’ve been fortunate enough to play Colossatron: Massive World Threat before it’s release on to the world and what a fun game it has been. I’m a huge fan of the work Halfbrick do too so the excitement levels were pretty high.
Colossatron: Massive World Threat is cleverly presented by Rick Dalton, who sits at the Action News 6 desk overlooking the end of each world. He also has a girl on the ground Katie Hazard (such pun), she’s the eyes and ears of Colossatron’s path of destruction. But there is one man, one man tasked with stopping Colossatron. That man is General Moustache. He and his military force will do anything and everything to stop you.
The key to success in Colossatron: Massive World Threat is to combine weapons that act as joints between Colossotron’s head and tail, these ‘weapons’ will serve as your offence and defense against the military. You have the basic primary colours which as you may remember from school can be combined to make secondary colours. Combining weapons will grant you access to other weapons. For example the red rocket launcher combined with the yellow laser beam will make the Orange flame thrower! ANARCHY! Now if you combine three of the same colour you’ll get a bigger, better, more powerful and better protected version of that colour. And again if you combine three of the already upgraded ones together…well you get the picture, bigger and better.
There are also special power up sections, but that’s a whole other story.
The game is split into seven different locations and within these locations are a number of small cities where Colossatron must destroy certain thing to eventually progress onto the capital. I can guarantee that chaos will be very present, especially in the Capitals.
I don’t think I can pick out a fault with the game. Originally I was a bit thrown when there was no tutorial. I was a little confused, but finding out the combinations and how to best destroy a city all by myself was fantastic and then once you learn that things can be combined and so on you start to realise that a tutorial wasn’t all that necessary.
The locations that Colossatron visits on his destructive holiday vary from classic city scapes to snow covered lands and everything inbetween.
It’s amazing how much fun Colossatron can bring when all you’re doing is destroying everyone’s home, hopes and dreams. The game itself is completely laid back in my opinion, it doesn’t take itself too seriously and it doesn’t need you to constantly play it. Just come and go as you please. That and many other factors are why I think it’ll be a very popular game.
The way you can create Colossatron in the way you want is a credit to the game itself, the way you and I may choose to kit Colossatron out could be completely different. You can go all out guns blazing or choose to protect yourself a little better using the purple segment, the choice is yours.
