Half-Life 3 was once again so, so close when it was revealed that Valve had trademarked Half-Life 3 according to the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, the European Union’s trademark and designs registry, but like the many “legitimate” rumours, leaks, and claims that were made once before, this too was a bogus listing.

The listing spotted by various NeoGAF members and picked up by numerous gaming news sources has since disappeared without a trace after being listed for a little over a week. There’s no explanation as to why it’s vanished leading us to believe that the listing was just a hoax in order to generate buzz.

So once again we must put away our crowbar and Gordon Freeman glasses until the next time out hopes are raised.
