Half-Life 3 was once again so, so close when it was revealed that Valve had trademarked Half-Life 3 according to the¬†Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, the European Union’s trademark and designs registry,¬†but like the many “legitimate” rumours, leaks, and claims that were made once before, this too was a bogus listing.

The listing spotted by various NeoGAF members and picked up by numerous gaming news sources has since disappeared without a trace after being listed for a little over a week. There’s no explanation as to why it’s vanished leading us to believe that the listing was just a hoax in order to generate buzz.

So once again we must put away our crowbar and Gordon Freeman glasses until the next time out hopes are raised.
