Have you been rocking XCOM: Enemy Unknown on consoles? Ready for some DLC?! Well, too bad.
Actually, I should elaborate. You will get an expansion for XCOM if you play it on consoles. However, it won’t come in the form of the now common DLC, for one simple reason. It’s just too damn big.
Garth DeAngelis, senior producer at Firaxis Games interviewed with Joystiq at PAX, admitting “For the expansion on the PC, it was fairly straightforward,” “But when it came to the consoles, it was too big. If we wanted to deliver the same content to the console players, we had to do it this way as a standalone expansion on a disc. We couldn’t simply just patch it in.”
Now, if you eliminate aliens on PC or Mac, you will see the content coming as a DLC, but unfortunately on consoles you’ll just have to suck up doing it the old fashioned way. You can look for it titled as the ‘Commander’s Edition’ retail release, priced at $30 USD coming on November 12th.
The Commanders Edition will include not only XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the Enemy Within expansion but also Slingshot and Elite Soldier add-ons. It will also include new maps and multiplayer content.
