Something that they hold near and dear to their hearts is now going to tax them for their adventures in the land that they have defended many times over the years. For others, it is a good way to keep those that would ruin their adventures out, and keep the guilds tight-knit with those devoted to the Aedra or the Daedra, respectfully. For this human spirit in an Argonian hero of old, I have no qualms with either.

According to the article written on Gamestar, Matt Firor, game director from ZeniMax Online announced the monthly price for the game of $14.99/€12.99/£8.99.

The article goes on to read that Elder Scrolls Online opted to take the classic business model over the free-to-play model, simply because it would not be the type of game an Elder Scrolls fan would want to play.

Matt Firor said that using the free-to-play model “meant that we would have to make sacrifices and changes that we weren’t willing to make.” he said. “We’re building a game with the freedom to play – alone or with your friends – as much as you want. A game with meaningful and consistent content – one packed with hundreds of hours of gameplay that can be experienced right away and one that will be supported with premium customer support. Charging a flat monthly (or subscription) fee means that we will offer players the game we set out to make, and the one that fans want to play.” he continued on to make the not that “…putting pay gates between the player and content at any point in game ruins that feeling of  freedom.” and even mentioning that “Just having one small monthly fee for 100% access to the game fits the IP and the game much better than a system where you have to pay for features and access as you play.”

But, don’t fret! The game will offer thirty free days upon it’s release, showing you what you will be experiencing before you even drop that bit of that hard earned gold into the coffers as an offering to the Eight. So you have 100% of the game unlocked for you before you even pay a nickle on the subscription, and Firor going on to say “We’ll talk about further discounts, etc. later.”, which probably means bulk deals for your subscription time.

The thought of a subscription makes me giddy with anticipation. I always knew the game would be heading into this direction, and with a subscription model, it keeps a lot of unsavory folks out of the game, though not all. The game will be slated for a 2014 release, coming out on PC, Mac, and next-gen consoles.
