PlayStation 3A word of advice: Dozens of PlayStation users are reporting that the latest patch (4.45) is causing various PlayStation 3’s to loose the XMB function leaving them utterly useless. It’s been reported that various different restore techniques are also failing.

Various PlayStation 3 users have written on PlayStation’s official U.S. forums that after updating to 4.45 their PlayStations are just left hanging at the “flowing ribbon” splash screen.

Ironically the firmware update is meant to add system stability improvements as well as the option to turn off Trophy notifications that appear in-game.

Bad news for those of you currently away from home that have automatic update enabled, you may arrive home to an almost “bricked” PlayStation 3. So far Sony haven’t released a comment or a statement surrounding the issue. More on this when it comes in.
