Word on the street is that the Huawei Ascend P6 may be getting the Google treatment that the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S IV have received. News comes from Pocket Lint who spoke with Huawei’s president of the handset devision, Kevin Ho who said ”We are working with Google to analyse the possibility of bringing out a Huawei Ascend P6 with Google Edition,”.
What this means for the Huawei Ascend P6 is that it’ll be receiving the same vanilla Android experience that you’d find on Google’s own Nexus handsets rather than Huawei’s own Emotion UI. This year is probably the first year for a short while that Google hadn’t announced a new Nexus device at their I/O event earlier this year. Instead they announced that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will be getting a “Google Edition” model released through the Play Store.
The idea of the super thin P6 getting a Google make-over might seem exciting but according to Huawei chairman Richard Yu, their own Emotion UI has ”hundreds of improvements” over Google’s own Android experience.
So far we’ve had confirmation of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S IV getting a Google Edition as well as the rumours of the Sony Xperia Z also getting the Google treatment. What does this mean for the future of Google’s own Nexus handsets? Well we know Google are still working on them, but with Android powerhouses like the One and the SGS IV dominating the Android scene, will Google be able to pull it out of the bag?
