SkypeStarting today in the UK you can Skype audio and video calls will be available directly in your Outlook inbox, it’ll require a one-time  plug-in download for your browser, but after the plug-in has been installed you’ll be able to simply connect Skype to your Outlook account using your Microsoft account.

If you’re not a UK resident don’t worry, this new feature will be made available for the U.S and Germany in the next few weeks, just think the UK get to iron out any bugs in the preview of the add-on so in a few weeks time you’ll get the very best Outlook/Skype experience! The new addition to Outlook is set to go worldwide this Summer.

In a blog post Simon Longbottom says “Even with the best email service, sometimes text isn’t enough. We all face those situations where it’s just easier to jump on a call to talk something through. Sometimes that quick call can accomplish more than a long email reply. That’s why we are bringing Skype audio and video calling to your Outlook.com inbox. Now, with Skype for Outlook.com, you can choose the right medium for your message, whether it is an email, call, video call or instant message (IM) — you can connect with your Skype and Messenger friends all in the same place.”

In the first six months after Outlook.com launched  the free email service it attracted 60 million new users. Will you be one of the 60 million that make use of the Skype add on?
