TweetDeckTwitter announced on Monday that it was abandoning TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for iPhone, and TweetDeck for Android and will be removed from their respective app stores some time around May. The apps will work for a brief while after until Twitter remove v1.0 of Twitter’s API which Twitter are working on retiring this month so expect “outages” until it stops completely some time during or near the end of May.

TweetDeck has become one of the most popular Twitter clients and around the app’s two year mark it was reported to have had over 15 million downloads and in 2011 Twitter acquired TweetDeck for around $40 million. With TweetDecks overwhelming popularity and success Twitter still decided to focus on it’s own mobile app and I think that’s partly why Twitter has decided to cut it’s ties with TweetDeck’s mobile demand.

It’s not all bad news though, in a blog post it was noted that they have been working for around 18 months on improving the Web App and Chrome App so you can still have the TweetDeck experience but on a less portable platform.

Twitter’s own mobile app has been pulling out some great features recently such as re-vamping user profiles, adding photo filters, and even a new improved search so if you were to move onto the native Twitter app I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
