Pikmin 3 Should Have Launched Alongside Wii U

Pikmin 3For those of you who watched the big Wii U games reveal at E3 last year you’d have probably noticed how influential Pikmin were and how everyone including Miyamoto were excited to announce/hear that there was going to be a new Pikmin game – you’d have probably expected it to be a launch title too. But it wasn’t even though Miyamoto thinks it should have been.

Speaking to Time, Miyamoto spoke about Pikmin 3 and the development behind it. “From my perspective, I think ideally it would have been nice if we’d been able to release Pikmin 3 closer to launch, but the Wii U – though it shares the Wii name – is obviously a brand new system, with new chips and graphical capabilities.”

He also mentions that Zelda for the Wii U is also a long way off. “With the Wii U, we took a similar approach by launching Nintendo Land as well as a Mario game – though we’re working on Zelda for Wii U, that’s going to take us a little big longer.”

Pikmin 3 should be available sometime in Spring. There’s no date yet for Zelda.

Reports have been stating that sales of the Wii U have been dropping significantly since it announced that 460,000 units were sold in December last year. Speaking to The New York Times Miyamoto addressed the poor sales issue ”Certainly in the short term I would want to see it performing with probably a little more momentum. I think in the long term I’m not at a point where I’m concerned yet.”

What are your thoughts on the Wii U? Do you own one and if so, how often do you play it?
