Great news is that they managed to get just over $7,000 more than their original target and they hope to get the GameDock out to us by March 2013.
The GameDock turns your iPhone 4+, iPad 2+, or iPod Touch 4+ into a retro videogame console. It can support up to two players and has HD TV output.
The GameDock works just like any other gaming console, you plug it into your TV via a HDMI cable, whack your iOS device into the dock, plug in the USB Nintendo style game pads and play away.
We’ve all experienced the frustration of trying to play a retro style game with a touch screen phone, games like Groundskeeper and Pix n’ Love Rush that have “iCade” two button and a directional pad controls are brilliant to play, but holding the phone can be a right pain in the ass once your hands get all clammy. The GameDock is hopefully going to be the answer to this well known problem.
Along with the dock itself once you’ve plugged your iDevice into the console you’ll be presented with an easy to navigate dashboard so you don’t have to keep getting up from your sofa to change games.
There’s also good news for those of you without a HDTV or those of you who don’t like HDTV’s you can also use the GameDock to play games directly on your device, not really ideal for the small screens of the iPhone and iPods but perfect for the iPad!
According to their FAQ on the Kickstarter page they are testing other USB controllers so hopefully in the future the GameDock can be used to play a variety of games!
